From Oregon, Ohio, Collins was a three-time letter winner as a center fielder for Oregon Clay High School, earning First-Team All-Conference honors as a senior. He also earned a letter as a wide receiver on the football team. At Oakland in 2021, Collins was a Horizon League All-Freshman Team selection, with 15 hits and a .300 batting average in 36 games.
