Aces hit the road to face the Grays
After the league’s contests on Saturday were cancelled due to heat, the Aces are back in action Sunday at 7 p.m. against the Grays in DC for a potential playoff preview
This will be the sixth and final meeting between the two teams this season. The Grays lead the series 3-2.
Both teams come into this game on a losing skid. The Aces have lost three straight games since beating the T-Bolts on Wednesday and have lost nine of their last ten contests. Alexandria sits in last place in the league with a 10-24 record.
The Grays are 16-19 and enter Sunday having lost five straight games. They sit in third place in the league and are three games behind second-place Silver Spring-Takoma.
In their last loss to the Braves, the Aces accumulated seven hits. The problem was that after the first inning, none of them came in threatening situations. In the last four innings, the Aces had only two baserunners.
After Sunday’s contest, the Aces will only have three remaining in the regular season. With Saturday’s games being cancelled and another cancellation, the team will only play 38 games in the regular season.
If the Aces and Grays stay in the same places in the standings, they will meet in DC for the first round of the playoffs.
The third-place Grays, fourth-place Braves and fifth-place Giants are all separated by one game. With the Aces likely to finish in sixth, that means they will play the team that finishes in third.
That team is still to be determined, but the Aces will continue to try and get their offense going so they can build some confidence into the playoffs.
The pitching matchup for Sunday has not yet been announced.
First pitch from the Nationals Youth Academy will be at 7 p.m. and can be heard on mixlr.com/alexandriaaces.
