Aces loses lead, drops Game 1

The Alexandria Aces dropped game one of the semi-final series at Shirly Povich Field Friday night in an 11-4 final score to the Bethesda Big Train.
The Aces rattled off to a 4-0 lead after the third after Javon Fields (Towson), Riley Cheek (UNC Charlotte), Dom Toso (Richmond), and Ryan Peltier all touched home. The latter three of which all carded base knocks with Cheek highlighting the grouping on a two-run homer.
Cheek has now hit two homeruns in as many games this postseason.
The lead didn’t last long, however. Bethesda tacked on three runs to resong in the fourth then knotted the game up a frame later.
A seven-run seventh inning – behind four hits and an error – gave the home team the go-ahead and the Big Train never looked back.
Noah Short (WVU) threw five innings in his start allowing four to cross. Adam Schwartz (UConn) tossed two in mid-relief surrendering seven behind a strikeout tagging him with his second loss of the summer. Brett Clements (Pitt CC) tossed a final scoreless frame.
Game two of the series takes place at Frank Mann Field Saturday for a 6:30 p.m. start. The Aces must win the ballgame to force a game three or face elimination.
