Aces travel to Gaithersburg trying to get back to winning ways
The Aces have dropped two straight, but travel to Gaithersburg on Monday for a 7 p.m. battle with the Giants.
The Aces sit at 8-14 after two straight losses and are just a half-game ahead of the last place Braves.
The Giants are in fourth place with a 12-12 record and are coming off of a 9-4 win in Bethesda against the first-place Big Train.
The Aces are led offensively by Scotty Morgan (George Mason) and Max Romero (Vanderbilt).
Morgan comes into play Monday sporting a 13-game hitting streak, while Romero has reached base in 12 straight.
Defensively, walks and errors continue to plague the Aces, making four errors and walking eight batters in their most recent loss to the Braves.
The Giants are coming off of an impressive victory in Bethesda in which they roughed up the league’s best starting pitcher so far this year. The Giants chased Dalton Ponce after four innings, compiling eight hits and five runs against him.
Cade Doughty (LSU) was 2-5 with an RBI and two runs scored. He has been one of the best hitters in the league in 2019 with his season average at .409.
The probable pitching matchup is Jared Lyons (George Mason) for the Aces against Zach Adams (Campbell U) for the Giants.
Lyons comes in with a 1-0 record and a 1.96 ERA in four starts. His 32 strikeouts are third in the league and are just three behind Bethesda’s Chase Lee for first.
Adams is making his fourth appearance and third start. He is 1-1 with a 4.32 ERA in 8.1 innings.
First pitch will be at 7 p.m. from Gaithersburg. All of the action can be heard at mixlr.com/alexandriaaces.
