2019 Season Opener vs. the DC Grays!!!!

The Alexandria Aces open the upcoming season on familiar footing with a hosting of the D.C. Grays at Frank Mann Field this Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
Their 2019 campaign will feature a 40-game slate with 20 home and road matchups. Recent changes in the Cal Ripken Collegiate Baseball League condensed the league’s total down to six clubs with the departure of the Baltimore Redbirds, Baltimore Dodgers, Louden Riverdogs, and Rockville Express.
Since 2014, the Redbirds and Bethesda Big Train have dominated CRCBL with either – or both – clubs winning the regular season pennant or postseason title in each season. And with the Redbirds dismissal, the vacant throne makes 2019 an important season in terms of league reputation.
Historically, the Aces appear best fit to contend atop the league with Bethesda as they are the only club of the remaining five to boast a cumulative winning record (110-89) over the past five summers courtesy of three 20-win seasons.
A good indication of what’s to come took place Monday evening in an exhibition matchup with the FCA Herndon Braves. The affair ended in a 7-5 Aces comeback.
A five-run sixth inning displayed Alexandria recalcitrance with a pair of base hits by Daniel Brooks (George Mason) and Casey Mayes (Michigan State) to highlight the frame.
Skipper Chris Breset gave seven different pitchers the mound in the preseason bout. The group combined for seven strikes outs and allowed just five base hits.
And despite an offensive miscommunication in the base path, the Aces played clean baseball without a single defensive error.
Returning Aces from the 2018 squad includes first baseman Scotty Morgan (George Mason) and right-handed pitcher Nick Sadd (Bucknell).
