Game 20 and 21 – Aces vs Loudoun Riverdogs

The Aces will play the Loudoun Riverdogs today at Frank Mann Field in a double header with the Aces really looking to get back to their winning ways after a tough stretch.  Alexandria (9-10) have lost 5 of their last 6 games, but still remain in serious playoff contention only trailing the Herndon Braves by a game and a half in the overall standings for the last playoff spot in the Cal Ripken Collegiate South Division.  The Riverdogs who have a record of 4 wins 16 losses have not had an ideal season so far, but proved to be a tough game the last time they visited Frank Mann Field as the Aces not only had to come from behind to beat them but also had to extend the game to twelve innings to get the job done.

The Aces will trot out extremely talented right hander Wyatt Rush to the mound today who stands at 2-2 this season.  The Lansing Community College starter has some nasty stuff as he likes to combine his fastball with a great changeup and a nasty breaking ball.  The Aces are going to need everything they can get from Rush today, as the first of the double header is critical for setting the right tone for the stretch run as we have finally hit the final month of play in July.  If Rush is hitting his spots consistently in the strike zone today, it will be a long day for the Loudoun Riverdogs.

The Aces in game two will be starting right hander John Cerratani from Sacred heart.  Cerratani is a pitcher who really likes to paint those inside and outside corners, and has been successful at doing so this season as he has a 0-0 record with a 2.07 ERA on the season in 8 innings of work.  Cerratani who is close to averaging a strikeout for every inning of work he has conducted at 7 will need to have the mojo working out there today in game number 2 to keep the Aces in the hunt for the playoffs in a critical game 2 today against Loudoun.

The Aces lineup will need to step it up as well, as recently they have not been able to put the ball in play and drive in the runs that was powering this team to start the year.  They are going to need all they can get from guys like Kris Kremer (Penn State),  Ethan Cady (East Tennessee State), and Reid Powers (South Alabama), to get the lineup headed in the right direction for this double header, and tomorrow’s double header against the Rockville Express.

Game time starts at 3:30pm and 6:30pm respectively so make sure to get out to Frank Mann Field for first pitch.  If not able to attend follow us live on aces radio at, or check us out on Twitter and follow us using @Alexandria_aces
