The Aces suffered a tough defeat at the hands of the FCA Herndon Braves tonight losing 7-5 at Frank Mann Field. The Aces who’s loss tonight puts them at a record of 16 wins 22 losses on the year will need to win tomorrow and Saturday if they hope to continue on to a postseason appearance. We also need to hope for a league rival, The Rockville Express to drop their final game of the season as it will guarantee the Aces a spot in the playoffs if Alexandria is able to take the final two games.
Tonights game was back and forth for most of the night. At the end of 4 innings it was clear that both starting pitchers, Jacob Grzebinski for the Aces (Georgetown) and Jacob Defazio had their hands full as Grzebinski had only one more inning left in him and Defazio had been pulled in favor of reliever Aaron Mayhew as the Aces were clinging to a 5-4 lead. The Aces were able to acquire such a big lead as Eric Lansinger (UNC Charlotte) hit a two run opposite field double that just missed being a homerun which gave them a one run advantage.
The Braves however were not close to being done as the turning point in the game for FCA Herndon was a solo homerun hit by Vinny Costello (Hofstra) to square things up to even. After tying the game, it appears the momentum shifted in favor of the FCA Herndon Braves as they held the Aces to two more scoreless innings and entered the 9th ready to pounce. The Braves were able to put two decisive runs on the board in the 9th as they were able to pull out a tough victory on the road which sealed them a spot in the playoff picture.
The Aces will play tomorrow at Frank Mann Field against the Loudon Riverdogs at 6:30 PM so make sure to come out for first pitch. If not able to attend, please listen live on Aces radio using www.mixlr.com/alexandriaaces or following us live on twitter with the screen name @AlexandriaAces.
