The Alexandria Aces will have their hands full on Friday night as they take on the top team in the league in the Bethesda Big Train who stand at a dominant record of 17 and 2. The Aces have a record of 9 wins and 8 losses on the season and have struggled recently losing 3 of the last 4 games, but are really looking forward to the challenge of playing a competitive team like the Big Train who the Aces were able to beat just over a week ago at Frank Mann Field. The season series is tied at one a piece for both ball clubs, so bragging rights will be on the line tonight to see who takes the lead in the win column vs. one another.
The Aces will trot out University of West Virginia Mountaineer Will Liverpool on Friday night to take on the Big Train. Liverpool who has mostly been used as a reliever for the Aces but has really shined in that role with 8 innings under his belt in relief with 8 strikeouts and not having allowed a run during that time frame. Liverpool who has a low 90’s fastball and excellent movement on his breaking ball will need to have all of his pitches in his arsenal tonight if the Aces are able to steal one on the road from one of the top teams in the league.
Throwing for the Big Train University of Southern California (USC) right hander Chris Clarke. Clarke stands at a towering 6 foot 7 seven on the mound and has a record of 1-0 with 8 strikeouts 11.1 innings and a 4.77 ERA. Clarke attending one of the better historical baseball schools out at USC should have the talent to get the job done on the mound for the Big Train. The Aces will try to get to the powerful right hander early as they can expect a powerful fastball that is coupled with off speed pitches to try to keep Alexandria off balance.
The Aces are going to need their lineup in full force tonight and one of the guys they are going to need a big game from is Penn State Nittany Lion second baseman Kris Kremer who leads the team in Home runs (3) and RBI’s (10). Also keep an eye on the youngster Isaiah Thomas and Vanderbilt commit who after just graduating from high school has really sparked the Aces lineup in 5 games hitting close to .400. If the lineup can compete with the league leader in runs scored (Big Train) it will have an excellent chance at stealing one on the road.
