The Alexandria Aces look to bounce back tonight against the Silver Spring-Takoma Thunderbolts tonight on the road at Montgomery Blair Stadium. The Aces who were 8-5 two games ago, have slipped to a 8-7 record and are now clinging to a one game advantage in the win column. Tonights Thunderbolts team stands at a record of 6 wins 11 losses but will be a challenge none the less as the Thunderbolts themselves are still in play for one of the two coveted playoff spots in the Cal Ripken Collegiate North Division only trailing the second place Gaithersburg Giants by a couple of games. You can expect a battle from both teams who are hungry for postseason success.
The Aces will trot out their phenom pitcher Carter Bosch who has been outstanding in three starts so far posting a 2-0 record and an extremely impressive Cal Ripken Collegiate League leading 0.00 ERA. You couple those stats with the fact that Carter is one of the younger players in the league as he just graduated from the local High School Potomac and hasn’t even set foot on his future college campus Georgetown yet, it is truly mind-boggling. The Aces are going to need yet another standout performance from Carter Bosch today if they want to end this recent losing skid.
The Thunderbolts will have the Taiwanese import Cheng-You Chen on the hill tonight, as Chen a big right hander at 6 foot 1 and 206 pounds will look to impose his will on the Aces and their strike zone. Chen who plays his college ball at the National Taiwan Sports University has a record no wins, 1 loss and a 4.69 ERA in 5 appearences this season for the Thunderbolts. Expect a lot of fastball and off speed pitches from Chen as he really likes to fool the opposing batter with a number of different pitch combinations.
The Aces lineup has been lead recently by one of the younger players in Cal Ripken Collegiate play as well in the form of young Centerfielder Isiah Thomas. Isiah like Carter Bosch hasn’t even stepped foot on a college campus yet as he is a Vanderbilt commit, but has made an instant impact as an 18 year old in the CRCL (Cal Ripken Collegiate League) as he has hit near the top of the order for every game he has started and has a batting average that has surged above .400 so far. The Aces will need Thomas to continue to use his talent to find ways to get on base and wreak havoc on the opposing defense with his base stealing ability.
Start time for tonights road game at Montgomery Blair Stadium will start at 7:00 PM so make sure to tune into Aces Radio for the on air broadcast (Mixlr.com/alexandriaaces) or follow us live on twitter for updates within the game @AlexandriaAces.
