Game 38 Preview: Aces vs Big Train

The Alexandria Aces come into this tonight’s regular season home finale against the Bethesda Big Train with a 27-10 record after an off day following the defeat of the Gaithersburg Giants by a score of 7-6.  The Big Train also come in after an off day, and in their last game they took down the Loudoun Riverdogs 3-1.  The Big Train won the last three meetings between the two teams, and has beaten the Aces both times they have met at Frank Mann Field.

This game is a must win game for the Aces if they want to stay alive in the race for first place in the South Division.  If the Big Train wins they will get first and the Aces will be locked into second in the division.  The magic number for the Big Train is currently 2.

For the Aces, Blake Walker (Northern Illinois) who celebrates his birthday today, will take the mound. This season, Walker has 6 starts, 19 strike outs and a 2.76 ERA in 26 innings pitched. The Big Train will send Kevin Milam (St. Marys College) to the mound. Milam has 1 start in 20 innings pitched, 15 strikeouts and a 3.31 ERA.

Some players to watch on offense for Big Train are James Outman and Logan Driscoll.  Outman has 9 home runs on the season, and Driscoll is the most recent offensive player of the week in the Cal Ripken League

For the Aces Eli Boggess (Morehead St) and Todd Elwood (UNC Charlotte) come in hot.  Both guys had three hits in the game against the Giants and Boggess had three RBIs against Gaithersburg.

First pitch will be at 7:00, and if you can’t make it to Frank Mann Field the action will be on Aces Radio or you can follow along on the Aces Twitter at @Alexandria_Aces.
