The Alexandria Aces come into tonight’s game against the Gaithersburg Giants with a 26-10 record after a splitting a doubleheader against the Herndon Braves. The Giants come in off an off day yesterday. The last time these two teams met the Aces offense scored 10, but had to hang on to win 10-9. The Aces hold a 3-0 season record against the Giants and will be looking for the season sweep.
The Gaithersburg Giants are currently trailing the Baltimore Redbirds by 3.5 games with a 17-17 record, so they will be fighting to stay above .500. They have a 2.5 game lead over the Thuderbolts to stay in second place in the North Division. The Giants are 5-5 in their last 10 games.
This game represents a chance for the Aces to stay in striking distance when they play the Big Train on Wednesday. The Aces currently trail the Big Train by 1 game
The Aces have not announced who will be stating the games, but following the rotation the Aces have been using next up would be Blake Walker (Northern Illinois). Walker has thrown 26 innings of 2.76 ERA baseball this year, and this would be his 7th start. Jaret Bennett will be on the mound for the Giants making his 4th start and 8th appearance, and he currently holds a 5.32 ERA.
Some players to watch on offense for the Giants are Daniel Cabrera who is hitting .359 and Mark Fraser who leads the Giants in home runs wit 5.
For the Aces Eli Boggess (Morehead St) and Kam Smith (Northern Illinois) come in hot. Smith hit his first home run of the season yesterday and Boggess added on to his season RBI total.
