The Aces eclipsed their franchise record in wins on the last game of the regular season, taking down the Rockville Express by a score of 5-1. The Express were the first to strike, but the Aces would answer right away and cruise their way to earn their 28th win of the season, and finish the regular season with a 28-12 record.
The Express were the first to score in the bottom of the first, when they got back to back singles to score a run, and were on top of the Aces 1-0. In the top of the second the Aces would tie the game up when Nick Slaughter (Houston) opened up the inning with a leadoff triple, and then Mack Nathanson(Wofford) singled him home and it was a tie game.
The Aces would take the lead In the top of the 4th when Eli Boggess (Morehead St) walked to start the inning, and then stole second and advanced to third on a fielder’s choice. Ethan Cady (Lipscomb) hit a ball up the middle for an RBI single that then took a funny hop, and rolled all the way back to the wall and Cady scored on a three base error and the Aces were up 3-1.
The Aces would add on one more run in the 5th when Eli Boggess (Morehead St) doubled home Kam Smith (Northern Illinois). In the 6th the Aces would take the 5-1 lead they would hold the rest of the game when Nathanson hit a leadoff triple, and then Cady doubled him home.
Dustin Lander (Charleston Southern) got his first start of the season throwing 5 innings and allowing only 5 hits and 1 run. Mark Tindall (Trinity), Hughes Page (UVA), Cooper Jeffers (High Point), and Dom Masullo (Morehead St) all followed up with scoreless innings out of the bullpen, and that’s how the Aces would close out the regular season.
