The Alexandria Aces will play the second of three home games in a row tonight as the FCA Herndon Braves come to Frank Mann Field in a South division matchup. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. Fans who cannot attend the game can follow the action on the Aces Twitter page, or listen to Aces Radio.
Alexandria lost its second game in a row last night at home, falling 6-1 to the S.S-Takoma Thunderbolts. Trevor Eulenbach (Texas Tech) gave up four hits and six runs in just two innings and the Aces would never recover. Alexandria went eight innings with no runs and just three hits. A small rally was started with two outs in the bottom of the ninth as the Aces finally scored a run, but it would prove to be too little too late. The Aces evened up the season series with the T-Bolts at 1-1.
Gabe Mosser will get the start tonight for the Aces (5-8). The sophomore righty out of Shippensburg has solidified himself as the Aces #1 pitcher and is the only starting pitcher with two wins. Mosser is 2-0 with a 0.90 ERA in two appearances, throwing 10 innings and only giving up one earned run. Mosser has 10 Ks to just five walks.
Sam Bjorngjeld is expected on the mound for the visiting Braves (5-6). Bjorngjeld (Tulane) is 1-0 with a 3.17 ERA in his second summer with the Herndon Braves. He has pitched 5.2 innings over four appearances but will be getting his first start of the season tonight. Bjorngjeld hasn’t pitched more than 2 and one-third innings this year in his previous four appearances.
The series between the Aces and Braves is knotted at one game a piece. The Aces travelled to Herndon on June 12th when the Braves squeaked out a 3-2 win. Alexandria then won the second of the two matchups at Frank Mann six days ago. With the middle of the South division a log jam, both of these teams will be fighting to get a leg up on the other.
Come out and support the Aces as they take on the Herndon Braves. See you there!
